John Steinbeck, all through his career, wrote either very substantial novels, such as his masterly The grapes of Wrath, or very slight novels, such as of mice and men. Many of hid admirers hold that the latter from displays his genius to even greater effect than the former. These works are all with the fire of the author's genius , whether they concern the hoboes of the Californian cost, the mute sufferings of Mexican and Indian fishermen, or the struggles of patriots on the sombre and embattled coast of Norway in wartime. |
