Hindi lola ang sumulat ng mga kuwento ni Lola Basyang kundi isang lolo si Severino Reyes, ang Ama ng Sarsu- welang Tagalog.
Minsan, naimbitahan ang mga Reyes ng pamilyang Zamora ng Quiapo, Maynila para sa isang hapunan. Napan- sin ni Severino na pagkatapos ng hapunan ay nagkumpulan ang mga bata sa harap ni Gervasia Guzman de Zamora o Tandang Basiang at humiling silang magkuwento ito. Ganito pala ang nakagawian gabi-gabi sa bahay ng mga Zamora. Uupo si Tandang Basiang hawak ang kanyang itsuhan habang nakapaligid ang mga apo upang makinig sa kanyang mga kuwento.
Ito ang naging inspirasyon ni Severino para sulatin ang ating kinagigiliwang Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang.
Si Lola Basyang ay bahagi na ng daan-daang alamat ng mga Filipino. May tunay na lolang Tandang Basyang ang pangalan. Pero nang ang matanda ay bigyan ng tinig ng panulat ni Severino Reyes, siya ay naging mahi- wagang bukal ng mga kuwentong kumakayag sa mga kabataan sa daigdig ng magpakailanman. Sa muling pagsasalaysay ni Christine S. Bellen sa tulong ng mga artistang sina Frances C. Alcaraz, Liza A. Flores, Albert E. Gamos, Ruben de Jesus at Elbert Or, may bagong sigla ngayon ang tinig ng lola ng lahat ng panahon.

The Enchanted Violin
odrigo was a poor young man who worked as a servant for a rich businessman called Ahab. Ahab let Rodrigo work for him on the condition he would only give Rodrigo his wage at the end of the year. Rodrigo agreed, thinking he would be able to save more money this way. The young man worked very hard for a year. He saw to the needs and orders of the businessman and tended to his store.
When the year passed, Rodrigo asked for his salary but Ahab convinced him to collect it instead at the end of the following year. Rodrigo agreed that this would be for the best. He comforted himself with the thought of bringing home a much bigger sum of money.
At the end of the following year, Rodrigo asked for his salary. The selfish businessman refused, claiming that he did not deserve it. Rodrigo demanded to be paid for all his hard work. So Ahab gave him two pesos and rudely sent him off. Rodrigo could do nothing else but head for home to his poor parents. He had not gone far when he spotted arr old beggar woman, weak from hunger.
Rodrigo felt pity for the beggar. He bought food and gave the rest of his money to her. The old woman, moved by the young man's compassion rewarded him with an enchanted violin which when played, would make anyone who hears its music dance. The old woman told Rodrigo to go back to Ahab and collect what was rightfully his.
Rodrigo made Ahab spin, twirl and shake his hips to the music of the violin. He became weary from dancing but found that he could not stop. Ahab promised Rodrigo his full salary to get him to stop playing the violin. As Rodrigo took his leave with his money in his pocket, soldiers apprehended him, accusing him a thief.
Before he was to be hanged for his crime, Rodrigo requested to play his violin one last time. As he played, the townspeople, including Ahab, found themselves dancing uncontrollably. Ahab pleaded with Rodrigo to stop playing the violin. When the music finally stopped, Ahab confessed his evil deed.
The greedy businessman was quickly thrown in jail. Rodrigo, now content, began his journey home with his full salary for two years in one hand and the enchanted violin in the other.
