H.G. Wells referred to John Steinbeck as 'a tremendous genius' and the world public continues to endorse the verdict. John Steinbeck, all through his career, wrote either very substantial novels, such as his masterly The grapes of Wrath, or very slight novels, such as of mice and men. Many of hid admirers hold that the latter from displays his genius to even greater effect than the former.
